My last year in Northern Ireland. Attended the opening game v Switzerland (probably our worst game) with a group of RAF mates. Then watched the England v Germany game in Blackpool before travelling to Germany for my next posting.

Had inadvertently booked summer holiday to Kos coinciding with the the latter stages of Euro 96. Was worried at first that this might be a mistake but turned out to be most enjoyable.
The last night of the holiday was spent watching the semi-final in a bar of 50/50 English/ Germans.
Other than that spent much of 96 working in chuffin' Sheffield.

That Knebworth gig could be worth a thread on its own.
- The line up. Ocean Colour Scene, Prodigy, Manics and Oasis were about as good as it gets at the time
- The enormous size of the gig. 200,000 each day
- The coke. Everywhere and everyone on it
- The 2 hour queue for beers
- The sense of history and being at our generations big event
- The fucking long walk and climbing over fences to get away at the end
Gig itself? Bands seem to play fine although the size of the event almost made what they sounded like less relevant. Just had to be there man...

Won tickets to the Euro 96 final, chaperoned by Emlyn Hughes.
Went to the first V festival, when it was a lot smaller (Weller, Charlatans).
